SimpliSafe teamed up with Truth Bullet and Suneeva to create a set of spots centered on the Danish idea of Hygge — a feeling of coziness, warmth and safety — similar to the feeling of being in a beautiful home and well protected. The spots further demonstrate that SimpliSafe not only protects your family, but also your sense of design.

Shop in Brooklyn, NY
I opened Eponymy in September 2008 with the idea of reviving the lost art of shopping. I refitted a truckload of antique showcases and fixtures from my grandparent’s old shop (which graced the cover of the New Yorker in 1974) — using them as the foundation for the design and soul of the space — and updated the lot to make them work in 21st Century Brooklyn. The shop — filled with antique oddities, vintage and off-the-beaten track modern clothing & jewelry, and a rotating gallery of visual work from early to mid-career artists — also hosted events and shows. My dog became a minor celebrity in Japan.

SimpliSafe, the first company to offer a completely wireless, self-install home security system, wanted to set themselves apart from their newly-formed competitors through their visual brand identity. For the launch of their third generation system, I led the team to create both still and moving images that reflect a “modern pioneer” aesthetic — evoking their role as industry trailblazer and referencing a time when things were built to last. Moving intentionally away from the bright, shiny, generic, sleek Silicon Valley aesthetic of their competitors, the SimpliSafe look utilizes natural looking light and a spin on American Heritage decor — as if to say: “we are humans, not robots.” The results conjure a look that is beautiful but real, aspirational but accessible and modern but rooted in history.

Who knows home security better than your friendly neighborhood burglar Robbert Larson?
I create arrangements and decorations using flowers, branches and greenery (both fresh and dry) and found objects. Some clippings are purchased, while others are native — scavenged or found in client’s gardens.
By using this approach, I aim to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that is at once wild yet polished, natural yet unusual, and modern yet conjures the spirit of bygone eras.
The arrangements created exclusively using dried flowers can enhance the aesthetic and add year-round warmth to outdoor low light areas and places where evergreens will not grow. They can also be stored and reused seasonally, year after year.

Toby (Alex Morf, Mindhunter) and Oskar (Louis Cancelmi, Boardwalk Empire) are henchmen - glorified body movers who hold their client's kidnapping victims in their dark basement until the ransom arrives. When the ransom for their latest victim, Gretchen (Carmen M. Herlihy, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close), never arrives, their lives slowly begin to turn upside down. As she drives a wedge between our two heroes, they must confront the banalities of their lives and the ways in which we all try to sometimes escape.

Featherweight Craft Cocktail Bar, Brooklyn
Featherweight’s owner was concerned that while the bar and seating area were beautifully designed and built out, its atmosphere would ultimately come across as too cold. She loved the whimsical windows and merchandising at my shop, Eponymy, and engaged me to source and style for warmth. I added objects and touches that lent elegance, character and fun to the space while veering away from an overly fussy or cluttered look.

Originally created as a birthday present for SimpliSafe’s CEO on a micro budget, it went over so well, that he asked to have it run as a broadcast spot.
“Display TV,” the television channel within the social media app, “display,” was in need of a transitional set for a studio they planned to move to a larger Manhattan location. They had bold blue walls, a blue velvet couch and a shoestring budget to work with. I focused on a high-quality, neon sign that they could move to their new location when needed, and created the rest of the look by sourcing content/ artwork from their user base. For the rest of the set, I sourced a mix of vintage and new picture frames, covered bargain bin books with designed covers which credits the titles of the displayed artwork, and spray painted smalls and fake plants in bright colors.
